Description
Fully established, hardy sedum and wildflower species are sown into easy to install cassettes and delivered to site for fast and simple installation onto roofs, terraces, podiums, garden rooms, single storey extensions and any flat surface which could benefit from greening.
Just click the trays together for an instant biodiverse roof.
Designed, developed and manufactured in the UK.
High quality sedum and native perennial wildflowers are grown from seed and fully rooted into a lightweight substrate growing media, for a truly sustainable biodiverse green roof system. Easy, lightweight, mess-free and future-proof.
Ideal for DIY and self build projects. Installation couldn’t be easier. Trays are delivered stacked onto pallets for easy handling by one person. Simply carry the trays to the deck space, lay them onto a suitable separation layer and click together using the special clips for a tight and secure connection. The plants will grow over and cover the walls of each tray to create an attractive soft landscaping area.
The diverse species mix of native wildflowers is pre-grown in Wallbarn's M-Trays at our own UK nursery. The mixture of flowering sedum varieties provides a basic cover of green plants and will give year-round coverage to the roof system. The wildflowers will grow up and flower throughout the summer and die back into the substrate over winter; returning the next year provided adequate self-seeding has occurred.
The biodiverse mix will attract bees and butterflies and other nature onto the roof space, creating a natural habitat and nature corridors inside built up urban areas.
Futureproofed - if the roof deck ever needs inspecting simply lift the trays. Unlike roll-out which often involves the removal of tonnes of soil and vegetation, there is no mess, no sharp particles, no machinery required, no risk of damage to the membrane.
Fire rated – M-Tray® has been physically fire tested and achieves B ROOF t4 EX AP CEN/TS 16459:2019 fire rating classification (see below for more details).

Fire Rated
M-Tray® modular wildflower roof system has a B ROOF t4 fire rating classification.
To meet current building regulations for fire stakeholders need to demonstrate that the whole ‘as installed’ roof system has a valid fire certificate, tested in accordance with CEN/TS 1187:2012 Test 4 External Fire Penetration and Spread of Flame and the classifications under BS EN 13501-5:2016 Fire Classification Of Construction Products And Building Elements.
A roof system when tested to CEN/TS 1187:2012 Test 4 Test Methods For External Fire Exposure To Roofs should achieve a European classification rating of B ROOF t(4).
Under Approved Document B only a test report to BS EN 13501-5:2016 for the exact construction or an EXAP report proves compliance; unless the green roof build-up from the deck to the finished surface includes a minimum 80mm of growing medium with less than 50% organic content.
M-Tray® by Wallbarn was tested according to CEN/TS 1187 and has both a Classification of B ROOF t(4) and an EXAP Report carried out in conformity with CEN/TS 16459:2019.
Furthermore, the growing medium is 100mm thick and contains less than 50% organic content. It complies both to BS 8616:2019 and the GRO Code.
This is construction law in England. Similar laws apply in the building regulations of Wales, the building regulations of Northern Ireland and in the Technical Handbooks for Scotland.

Hi there, I’m looking at installing this product on my bike shed. What layers do I need underneath? Can they be taken out of the trays too? Thanks
As long as the roof is secure and waterproof, you just lay a geotextile loose on the roof then sit the trays on top. If you want you can also use the decorative aluminium trim around the edges. You cannot take the sedum out of the trays.
